Family Law Matters We Handle
Our family law services address disputes involving children, financial support, safety, marital status, and property:
- Child Custody - We consider parental rights and the child’s best interests when addressing decisions about your child’s future.
- Child Support - Child support agreements address a child’s financial needs. We assess both parents’ financial information and the circumstances relevant to the requested support arrangement.
- Dependency Law - Dependency law cases require sensitivity and prompt attention. We advocate for clients involved in proceedings concerning a child’s care and safety.
- Divorce - We identify disputed issues, explain available paths, and prioritize settlement when appropriate, including in an uncontested divorce.
- Domestic Violence - We represent clients in domestic violence matters involving safety concerns and court orders.
- Father’s Rights - Advocating for fathers’ rights involves addressing equal treatment in custody and support matters. We represent fathers seeking an active role in their children’s lives.
- Legal Separation - Legal separation provides an alternative for spouses who don’t want to terminate their marriage but need court orders concerning property, debt, support, custody, or visitation.
- Mediation - Mediation offers a cooperative process for discussing disputed issues with a neutral mediator and working toward mutually acceptable terms.
- Modifications - Life circumstances change, and adjustments to existing court orders may become necessary. We guide clients through requests involving custody, visitation, or support modifications.
- Pre-Marital Agreements - We assist clients with agreements that define financial rights and responsibilities before marriage.
- Property Settlements - Property settlements can be contentious, requiring careful analysis of assets, debts, ownership interests, and applicable California law.
- Restraining Orders - We assist clients with the legal process surrounding restraining orders and related family court proceedings.
- Move Away Orders - Move-away matters involve custody, parenting time, and a proposed relocation. We provide guidance on negotiations and court proceedings concerning these issues.
- Spousal Support - We address spousal support requests using the financial information and circumstances relevant under California law.
- Visitation - Our services include establishing or modifying visitation and parenting-time arrangements after separation or divorce.

After leaving a less than favorable relationship with my son's father and trying to navigate Family Law and the legal system on my own, I found myself completely bewildered. I was referred to The Hunter Law Group by a family friend and have been blown away by how amazing they have been to work with. Not only are they open and honest in their practices, they also empathetic, accommodating, and understanding. Every time I speak with them I feel at ease due to the security and trust they have built while working with them. My whole situation has been a nightmare legally but Dan Hunter and his staff have been a ray of light throughout the storm. I can't thank you guys enough.S.N.

The Hunter Law Group guided us through a very difficult divorce/child custody case with exceptional knowledge of the law, respect and compassion. Dan Hunter is a very skilled professional and was readily available to hear our concerns. I could not imagine going through this ordeal without him. His experience with the law itself and the court system helped us navigate through this stressful situation. His staff too is excellent!Rosemary W.

As an attorney myself, I feel uniquely qualified to review The Hunter Law Group. Dan helped me through my divorce last year with all the professionalism I expected. He did a great job negotiating a reasonable deal in spite of the dilatory and obstreperous conduct of opposing counsel. He was responsive to my inquiries and his legal fees were very reasonable. I cannot recommend Dan highly enough.

Jason H,
Mr. Hunter has provided and continues to provide my business with excellent legal services. His expertise and dedication has delivered results that have exceeded expectations, including a multi-million dollar judgment we received on a complex business litigation issue. I highly recommend Mr. Hunter and his legal team.

I was actually in trial when I realized that my then current attorney "was not cutting it" so to speak. Mr. Hunter agreed to take my case in the middle of trial. I was relieved! Unfortunately, the damage had been done. He was not able to turn the trial judge around, so Mr. Hunter took my case up on appeal and WON! The result on appeal was a reversal of the trial court's spousal support order as well as an order for a new trial on the issue of attorneys' fees. At the second trial on the issue of attorneys' fees and costs, Mr. Hunter was successful in obtaining an order that saved me from having to pay approximately $180,000 in legal fees and costs to my ex-wife. What a relief!!! Mr. Hunter is a master at his craft. My only complaint is that I wish I would have found him earlier.Mike

I highly recommend you chose him to represent you…and then REST ASSURED that you have made a great choice! He was both collaborative and strategic in getting me the best possible outcome. Not to mention, he has an amazing staff that are well versed in law themselves and also professional and kind to lend an ear to my gripes from time to time.Nicole K.
Orange County Custody & Visitation Procedures
Orange County Family Court Services provides court-connected mediation and investigative services for custody and visitation disputes. When these issues are contested, parents may be required to attend mediation before the scheduled hearing. The applicable requirements depend on the case, the issues before the court, and current courtroom procedures.
Court-connected custody mediation is limited to custody and visitation matters. It doesn’t determine child support, spousal support, or property division. Those financial and property issues follow separate family court procedures, even when they arise in the same divorce or parentage case.
Family Law Filings & Hearings
The Orange County Family Law Division provides procedures and public resources concerning divorce, legal separation, custody and visitation, child support, paternity, domestic violence restraining orders, electronic filing, remote hearings, and self-help services. Public court information can clarify filing requirements, but it doesn’t provide individualized advice about strategy, evidence, or the terms you should request.
Rules and available procedures can change based on the type and stage of a case. We help clients identify the orders at issue, prepare relevant information, and understand what to expect from the next procedural step.
